One step better

Ok all you CM fans, I have had at least one combatmaster for at least the last 20 years. I have performed all sorts of modifications to them over the years. I know, it collectable now, but it wasn't back then. I'm sure any real shooters of the fine little cannon will agree that there are a few mods that it can still use.

Like the recoil system: If anyone has fired any HOT loads, or +p ammo through the CM then I'm sure you will agree that the recoil plug could use some strengthening. I have tried making them from chrome moly and titainium, but they still take on some damage when firing hot ammo. Heavy springs helped a little, but that light slide is tough to slow down.

Sight system: I like the shorter sight radius. It contributes to a shorter more compact overall length, but, the front sight is not designed to be replaced and I prefer some quality night sights on my carry weapon.

Loose barrel: Yeah, I know, any CM that is fired regularly over the years will have a loose barrel. Although you can have barrels made for the CM, they aren't exactly drop-ins.

By buying a melted kimber ultra carry stainless barrel and slide assembly, and doing a little machine work on the slide and frame, you can enhance the accuracy and functional reliability while reducing the size by .5 inch. Add to that a TSW double action conversion with a hooked trigger guard, and ya get a much quicker hammer down first shot, with quicker follow ups.

I went a couple steps further by adding one of those bobtail mainspring housings, and a set of thin line grips. Darn thing is so small now, the old holster is too big. However it soes fit right into a micro Kahr holster quite nicely.

I know the CMs are pretty nice and collectable too, but I just had to play hardcore with one of them.
