Historically, the best personal defense ammo for Combat Masters used to be the old 185 grain aluminum jacketed Winchester Silvertips. Now days the Silvertip hollow point is a little different shape, but seems to work in most of the Combat Masters. You'll have to try some for yourself and see.
You might also try Speer Gold Dots in 185 or 200 grain.
For practice try any brand name 230 grain ball, such as Winchester, Federal, or Remington. They all make an inexpensive, but good quality, round nose jacketed bullet.
