The ejector in a Pocket 9 is like a Walther PPK. It doesn't need the spring to eject the brass, only to push it up after the last round is fired, whereby it also acts like a slide stop. (Assuming your Pocket 9 was made before problems with that function caused the factory to discontinue the slide stop feature). So the cause of the malfunction would have to be due to something else besides the spring you mention.
