Shooting season is almost upon us, here in the NW. I haven't shot a match this year when we didn't get rained on at least a little. Our club made a couple of false starts at establishing an IDPA club, but we're going to give it another try this year, at a different range. I've been shooting my Combat Master in IDPA events, and while it is not the best equipment choice for Custom Defensive Pistol division, because your competition is mostly shooting custom, full-size 1911s, it's more realistic as a defensive gun. I think IDPA should consider a "snubby" division, for compact guns of all types. It would be based on barrel length, say 3" for revolvers and ~3.5" for autos, with a 125pf. It would encourage people to shoot real carry guns, or back-up guns, as opposed to the full-size service pistols that most competitors shoot. At the club level, there are "back-up" matches, but I don't see why IDPA doesn't establish it at the national level.
