When I bought my Combat Master at a gun shop in late '99, I was told that the gun, along with another new-in-pouch example, had been brought in by a guy who had been owed money by Detonics when they folded. He was a printer, and they paid his bill with a couple of guns. The guy wasn't a shooter, and the guns had remained in his closet for ten years. I thought it was a great story, but wondered if it was true? I attended some NRA instructor classes over the weekend, and noticed one of the other instructor candidates was using a Combat Master in the live fire portions of the class. I asked about the gun; where did he get it, when? A familiar story followed. This guy was a photographer, and he had shot the photos for one of Detonics' last catalogs. When the company folded, they paid him with the gun! Strange coincidence; or did Detonics hand out a lot of guns at the end?
