Cheers, Gentlemen.
I just found this site and am impressed with the number of Detonics devotees still around. I traded an ODI and some lucre for my Mk. VI about 1986. Since I was working in the area of the Detonics Bellevue facility, I would stop in from time to time to chat. I got to know a few of the fellows there, including the designer. He had some interesting one-off prototypes in his safe, including a long single shot barrel conversion kit for the .45 frame in a varmint caliber.
They were good enough to tune my Mk. VI for me on the spot and I was able to talk them into making up a complete "1 of 1000" kit; of which I guess only 200 were numbered and delivered. I've got the Haliburton case, .451 bbl fitted to my frame, reamer, manual, box of .451 brass, etc. I was also able to buy a new cardboard box, cloth Detonics patches, and a hat with the patch. Best of all, I got a letter documenting that my kit was issued from the factory! Now if I could just remember where I filed that letter.
Thanks to the originator of this site for creating such a place. I'll be checking in from time to time. Note to Rick B - I'm now retired and about 30 miles SW of Seattle.
