Detonics MkVII
By:D.P. Van Blaricom

I was the Chief of Police in the City of Bellevue, WA from 1/1/75 through 12/31/85 and had known Sid Woodcock for many years, both before and after he located his Detonics manufacturing facility in the Factoria area of Bellevue. I personally designed the variation that became the MkV11 in 1982 for maximum concealability and close range combat. The changes were: no sights, relieved trigger guard (right side), thinner safety and thinner slide stop. The prototype was bright blue, serial number "VAN", "Chief D.P. Van Blaricom" inscribed on the left side of the slide, and the maker's initials "MWL" (Mark W. Lagen) inscribed on the right side of the slide just behind the ejection port. I next obtained a matching stainless steel production model with the same markings, except serial number "cr VAN" and the maker's initials "SHW" (Sidney H. Woodcock). I carried the stainless steel weapon as my service pistol from time of manufacture until retirement and I still have both guns in pristine condition. Sid Woocock was a many faceted person and also served to train my bomb squad, during the years that we were having many activist bombings in the Bellevue area by the so-called "George Jackson Brigade" and others.
