I don't know about the letter, but I'm privy to some inside info here. Apparently Stanley had a pretty good relationship with the head gunsmith, who made three stainless guns for him. He had some problems with a MK I he had purchased, phoned the factory and spoke with the smith. They seemed to "hit it off" with one another. The MK I was replaced with a MK V that the smith prepared especially for him. It's my understanding that there was a "deal" to put the Combat Master into a movie, but that never materialized before Stanley passed away. Stanley was an American who preferred to live in England. Somehow he wrangled a permit to own 5 handguns. Three of those were Detonics: a Combat Master MK V, a Scoremaster, and a Pocket 9.
