Hello Len,
Nice to meet you on this great little forum. Honestly, Rick or others may feel the need to correct me, which is just fine. Many are more knowledgable than myself. I have owned two or three Mark VI's and only two were marked as such, but all three had a brushed stainless finish. The Mark V that I currently have does not possess any markings, such as the symbol Mark V. However, it is more of a matte finish; thus my assumptioin that it is a Mark V. How do you like your 9mm? Many rounds through it? How is the reliability? I am actually considering trading with a Texan for his .45 Combatmaster. I am less of a collector and more of an every day kind of guy that just enjoys a good shooter. For the same size package, I just like the ol' .45. For my 9mm needs, I think my MK9 (Kahr) will do just nicely. However, that being said, you just can't beat the 1911 ergonomics.
