The peening is so slight that it probably won't be a problem, as you've both suggested. In fact, I can only see it under magnification. I guess I'm just a perfectionist.
You know, I've never seen a stainless 70 series Colt either, but I've seen them advertised on Guns America, the online gun classifide site. They're probably nickel, I'll guess.
Hey, Which Combat master do I have? It's matte stainless with three recoil springs. Its rear sight is installed in a dovetail and retained with an allen screw. The blade is retained with an allen screw too. It's obvious that windage could be adjusted, and I suppose it may be possible to adjust elevation as well, but it would certainly be a hit and miss trial and error job.
At any rate, it's such a short-range pistol that I can't imagine there would be much advantage to finely adjustable sights.
