I used to carry Silvertips, too. The reason was, it was one of the only hollowpoints that had a hardball-like contour, and it generally fed better than the truncated-cone bullets (Hydra-Shok, XTP, Remington, Sierra, etc.). Now, most HPs have the rounded profile, so feeding isn't much of an issue. Almost all of the performance evaluations, whether they are lab-like tests or alleged reports of actual shootings, have the 230gr Federal Hydra-Shok as the top performer in .45ACP. It is widely available, and works in all my guns.
