I was in one of my favorite gun stores this past weekend, when I came across a Combatmaster in beautiful condition. I was perusing through the "used and consignment" case, where much of my rare and collectible finds are often acquired. It was a stainless version, with a bobbed hammer (nearly flush with the frame), standard side-lock safety and was minus a beaver tail of any kind. The barrel was coned and appeared to have a similar guide rod as most Detonics. The rear sight was different than most Detonic Combatmasters I have seen, appearing to be Novaks, and higher set. It had nice, checkered, diamond wooden grips with attractive round gold medallions on each side, the medallions each having a graduating ring design. It was clearly a Detonics, and all of the work appeared to be done at the factory, but to my surprise, IT WAS DOUBLE ACTION ONLY!! At that point, I realized that this particular Detonics Combatmaster had been ruined by some fool that turned it into a DAO! To each his own I thought; but then I find that this jackass buffed out all of the Detonics markings, roll stamps, etc., and stamped his own name in large letters on the slide. I thought, "What an arrogant son-of-a bitch"! To ruin the value of a rare gun just to put his own name on the side of it! This guy has some nerve. Well, I passed on the gun, but I tell you, if I ever meet this guy I'm going to let him know he did a great injustice by trying to pass off someone else's design as his own! Well, Mr. Para Carry, whoever you are, I'm talking to you, sir!! Indeed!! What gall!! Bloody blasphemy!!
