The gun in question, S/N 3982, is nearly 2,000 guns into production, as serial numbers began at 2001. However, the one piece castings began at 3660, (with a few exceptions), so it's relatively early in that sense.
Even if it runs well, it's priced high. You might find a good stainless version at a gun show for 650 to 700.
If you really want a blued Detonics, look for "D" prefixed serial numbers in the 9 thousand area. Those were some of the best.
That doesn't mean other blued guns don't work. If the gun is not butchered it can be made to work. It just improves your chances of not having to work on the piece to get reliability.
Colt magazines will lock in and work most of the time. Sometimes weak magazine springs will have a greater effect on the reliability of the Colt mag in the Detonics Combat Master, as the smaller gun usually jumps more in recoil, and the slide cycles faster.
A good Combat Master, blued or stainless, is still "The Ultimate in Concealable Weaponry" in my humble opinion.
