Howdy
"Pro" would be a different word than what I would use! I do work for local LEOs and other "choice" customers. I mainly do tune-ups and reliabilty work on 1911 type guns but have worked on MANY others. I build custom 1911s for the same "choice" customers. The reason for my being so picky is that I have a real problem working on or building something as personal as a "working"(goes to work everyday) handgun for someone that I have never met. I feel much better when I can get to know the person and how he/she is going to use the gun. Also the shipping rates to have somebody build a gun are unreal! I have built a couple bullseye guns for local shooters but I see very little practical use for them and my carry guns are almost as accurate and twice as reliable. I have built several guns on chopped frames and they were all really COOL and great shooters. I guess if you want my honest opinion find a shop close by you, get refferences, and explain to them EXACTLY what you want. Make sure that they are aware of the problems of building a short/chopped 1911, it is a totally different gun. Out of the big name shops I would have to say that Novaks is the best by my experiences. They don't build fancy guns but their guns WORK EVERYTIME. If you are in the northern midwest then I would probably be able to help you out, otherwise not. Beware of Dremel-jockies building guns in their garage with drop in parts. Many of the pro-shops are little better than this.
Hope this helps!
