Key West- Monday - Trauma centers have moved to the ocean thanks to David DiPetrillo. Mr. DiPetrillo who is SBR Medical Director for the World Championship Offshore Powerboat Races held here this week has arranged for trauma surgeons from leading South Florida Hospitals to be on the race course during racing activities Wednesday and Sunday. This innovative concept is staffed by Dr. Wayne Lee who is head of ten EMS Rescue Services Units in Broward County, and Drs. Lawrence Lottenburg and Edgar Figueroa of Miami's Memorial Hospital. With offshore speeds well in excess of 100mph it is comforting to know that the services of these talented and dedicated physician's are available to injured racers with the shortest possible lag time. Fans and racers alike owe a debt of gratitude to Mr. DiPetrillo for his creative approach to providing EMS and trauma services on the spot should the need arise.
