I was reading about the CM when it was introduced in the early/mid-'70's. I saved all of the articles from Guns & Ammo. That other compact .45s were introduced had no impact at all on my desire for a CM. Also, I've lived in Seattle most of my adult life, so the local connection played a role as well.
The CM was a very clever design, while the newer guns aren't. My choice wasn't CM or Kimber, or CM or Colt, it was CM or not. The CM is somewhat heavy, but it is so much lighter than a full-size 1911, it doesn't really bother me that it is six or eight ouces heavier than an alloy-framed compact.
