As Conley said, extractor shape and tension does have an effect on feeding. The polishing he mentions is also a good thing to ease strain on the cartridges and the gun parts. Springs are just releasing the energy stored in them and anything you can do to reduce friction will make more energy available.
My piece will feed empty cases as fast as you can cycle the slide by hand. This is a real test of an extractor and feed ramp!
If you can set up a magazine with a "weak" spring, we could try several experiments to locate the problem. Try the mag in my pistol, try my extractor in your pistol, etc. Kind of a brute force method - but easy and effective.
